Problem Statements – CodeQuest Season 3

All problem statements are aligned with real-world challenges and mapped to relevant UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Each team must select only one problem statement from the following list.

1. IoT-Based Smart Learning Environment Monitoring System

Problem Statement:

Educational institutions often lack real-time monitoring of classroom conditions such as temperature, air quality, lighting, and occupancy, which impact student performance. Develop an IoT-based system to monitor and optimize learning environments efficiently.

Expected Outcome:

A functional IoT prototype using sensors to monitor environmental parameters, with a dashboard for real-time visualization and alerts.

SDG Alignment: SDG 4 – Quality Education

2. IoT-Based Assistive Technology for Persons with Disabilities

Problem Statement:

Affordable and adaptive assistive technologies are limited. Develop an IoT-based solution (such as smart navigation aids, fall detection systems, or wearable assistive devices) to support differently-abled individuals in their daily activities.

Expected Outcome:

A working IoT-enabled assistive prototype demonstrating real-time sensing, alerts, and usability.

SDG Alignment: SDG 3 – Good Health & Well-being, SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities

3. IoT-Based Smart Security and Surveillance System

Problem Statement:

Small organizations and households require efficient and affordable security systems. Develop an IoT-based security solution that includes real-time monitoring, intrusion detection, and alert mechanisms.

Expected Outcome:

A prototype system integrating sensors and cameras with real-time alert notifications and monitoring capabilities.

SDG Alignment: SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure

4. Smart Agriculture Advisory System

Problem Statement:

Farmers often lack access to real-time data for effective crop management. Develop an IoT-based system that collects environmental and soil data to provide actionable insights for agriculture.

Expected Outcome:

A working IoT prototype that collects data (soil moisture, temperature, humidity, etc.) and provides recommendations through a dashboard or mobile interface.

SDG Alignment: SDG 2 – Zero Hunger

5. IoT-Based Disaster Monitoring and Alert System

Problem Statement:

Timely detection and response during disasters such as floods or landslides remain a challenge. Develop an IoT-based system to monitor environmental parameters and provide early warning alerts.

Expected Outcome:

A prototype system using sensors and communication modules to generate real-time alerts for disaster prevention and response.

SDG Alignment: SDG 13 – Climate Action

6. IoT-Based Smart Civic Issue Monitoring System

Problem Statement:

Urban and semi-urban areas face challenges in managing civic issues such as waste, water leakage, and street lighting. Develop an IoT-based system to monitor and report such issues efficiently.

Expected Outcome:

A working IoT solution integrating sensors (e.g., smart bins, water level sensors) with a platform for monitoring, reporting, and tracking civic issues.

SDG Alignment: SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities & Communities
